What are the benefits of Online therapy
Online therapy use has grown significantly because of its accessibility and convenience. It:
- expands your options for finding a therapist who is the right fit for our specific needs but who might not be available locally.
- is conveniently flexible which can be beneficial for people who do not have the time to travel to and from the therapist’s office, but who still want to prioritise their mental and emotional well-being. Assists those who have issues with transport.
- enables continuity of care for people who are physically immobile, have chronic illness, or present with other conditions that are a barrier to attending sessions in-person.
Who can book an online session?
Online therapy sessions are offered to individuals and couples located within South Africa and Zoom is used for consulting purposes.
Is online suitable for me?
In many cases, online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, there are some cases where in-person sessions might be preferred and other cases where it is necessary.
People who might be suffering with debilitating depression, who are in crisis, experiencing psychosis, and/or who are having active suicidal and/or homicidal thoughts would benefit from seeking appropriate intervention in person as this requires specialised treatment and care. In many such cases, going to their nearest emergency hospital for support is recommended.
Please note that if I do see you for online therapy and I feel that online therapy is not clinically adequate/indicated, we will either need to continue sessions in person at my offices in Umhlanga or I will need to refer you to another mental health professional in your area who can see you in-person.
How does online therapy work?
When you have booked your session and the proof of payment has been received by the practice manager, the session Zoom link will be sent to you via email.
What do I need to have for an online session?
If you are consulting with me online, please ensure that you have a private, quiet, and interruption-free space to have the session.
Loadshedding can, and does, disrupt online sessions. Please check your load shedding schedule ahead of time, charge your devices, and ensure you have enough data to stay connected for the entire session.
